Golden Russet Farm

1329 Lapham Bay Road

Shoreham, VT 05770

Foraged flower petals, leaves, and even food waste make beautiful colors and patterns on fabric through a process called bundle dying. We will spend the afternoon learning the basics of natural dyes and creating bundle dyed patterns on bandanas that you will take home. Bundle dying is a way to give more life to the garden’s bounty, and it is a free-form and forgiving way to experiment with natural dyes.

We’ll gather at the beautiful Golden Russet Farm in Shoreham, VT, rain or shine. Each participant will have the chance to bundle dye a silk bandana during the workshop, and will also receive a set of instructions for bundle dyeing at home.

Logistics:

- Open to ages 10+. We ask that folks under 16 be accompanied by a trusted adult.

Instructors:

Caroline Damon - Caro

Caroline is a textile artist with a passion for bright colors. She loves to garden in the summer, and is on a perpetual search for ways to extend the garden’s beauty into the less colorful winter months in Vermont. The bundle dye process is the perfect way to accomplish this, and Caroline is so excited to share this experience with you!

Caroline has broad experience with fabric dye processes including natural dyes, indigo, and ice-dye with synthetic dyes. She loves the moment when the dye piece is unfolded and the colors and patterns become apparent - it's pure magic.

Pauline Stevens - Golden Russet Farm

Pauline grew up in Addison County and has recently taken over her family’s vegetable and flower farm in Shoreham that her parents started nearly forty years ago, Golden Russet Farm.

Pauline's interest in dyeing started as a kid with tie dyeing soccer jerseys and has grown over the last decade into an interest in natural dyeing with plants and other natural materials. She has created her own indigo vat from plants she started from seed and also decided it would be a good idea to dye all of the tablecloths for her wedding with onion skins she saved from the farm. She and her husband Cody live in Shoreham with their puppy Tulsi and while she’s not working in the fields or greenhouses, she’s usually focused on planning her next meal.
